Just like the LS1 in the Camaro is really around 330hp and not 305, the Corvette IS a little higher. But not THAT much. The C5 puts out 350hp at 5,600rpm...where are you getting this 4,000rpm myth from? The point of Chevy underrating the Camaro was so that they didn't put it too close to their flagship of the Corvette. How can you have a car that costs HEAPS more and has barely anymore horsepower? You can't... Now if the HP was really 400 crank, then they would not have had this problem as they would have had almost 60-70hp difference in the two cars. Why would they underrate BOTH of them that much? Sheesh... I don't care where your friend's dad works, come out to our Chevy club's dyno days (I'm an old F-body guy)...watch over 60 cars dyno. The proof is in the pudding. And if you are STILL too dense to figure this one out, realize that the new Z06 will have around 405hp at the crank. Now why on EARTH would they put 405 in that thing only to have the C5 run the same horsepower (not on paper of course). And if you try to tell me they are underrating the Z06 as well and it's really 450 crank, I'll smack you! :)
